More Than Anything

What I want more than anything is to stay healthy.

After that?

  • Finish this manuscript
  • Weigh less (a big part of this is to stay healthy)
  • A surprise puppy
  • Get rid of all the things we no longer use... and the things we'll never use
  • More money
  • More good hair days than bad hair days
  • Cool looking toenails

What are your priorities?

When Less Becomes More

Over the years it's become less about conforming and more about discovering what makes me original.

It's become less about seeking approval from people I respect and more about setting my own goals.

It's become less about the outward appearance of success and more about that inner security with which I'm finally growing comfortable.

It's become less about how I look and more about how I feel.

It's become less about glamorous destinations and more about holding hands with the man I love while we walk through a parking lot.

It's become less about projecting outward confidence and more about understanding those who are in that spot.

I don't need a purple hat or a red hat or even a white hat. I just need some friends who love to laugh and aren't afraid to be silly.

What about you? How have you changed?

Underwareness

Did this tickle anyone else? I'm not there yet (knock wood), but I'm so happy to be a boomer. In numbers there is power, and even the young minds who probably dreamed up this ad campaign know it.

This is my first post on this blog about aging, and women things, and all of those feelings we have. I'm not sure how frequent the posts will be, but rest assured, I think about getting older every day...

My Mac has a feature called Face Time. It's like Skype but the picture of me is bigger.

This is not such a good thing.

I look at myself and wonder when it was that I got old. I don't remember it happening. There was no warning or even a postcard delivered snail-mail to give me a heads-up, like one of those reminders to make an appointment with your dentist:

Hello, Peg.

Time flies! Our records show YOU ARE GETTING OLD and it's time for you to understand the ramifications.

It's not necessary for you to make another appointment. In fact, you may not have noticed, but you've already met with our Director of Aging.

We'd offer assistance, but there's really nothing we can do about your getting old. Except, well... you know. And it's already too late for that. You're already there baby, and we're here to help you adjust.

So here, in this space, I'm hoping to have a place for me and others to release frustrations, surprises (good and bad), and the power to continue on.
